I've made a few mistakes though, as can be expected. This is what happens when I mess up the textures, hehe XD
It's beer o'clock!
Some time later....
eh. good enough ;)
Anyway, 3 or 4 more props to do, then I'm done with props!
Then, back to animating... (which I have been procrastinating massively on, omg!).
Hi Sweetie, if you want to make glass objects, use the glasses accessory.
ReplyDeletesee the milkcrate? that's how I did that

Thanks very much for the tip, Cloud!
DeleteI still have a wine/vodka bottle that I wish to convert, so I'm definitely going to try this! :)
Did you make this mesh? Will you be offering the accessory up for download? Do you still want a nectar bottle accessory?
ReplyDeleteHi, No sorry I didn't make the mesh- this is just a conversion. I am using it for personal use in my machinima.
DeleteI am not sure yet if I will offer it for for download because I would need to get permission from the original mesh creator first, plus I would need to sort out issues with the texture.
Once my machinima is released I am going to assess what animations and accessories are good enough to upload.
I'm fine for a wine bottle, thanks :) I recently converted one of Aikea Guinea's wine bottles, so it's all good ^_^
I've been doing a lot in TSRW lately. What texture problems are you having? I might be able to help. I just extracted and cloned the solo cup and nectar bottle from in game and polished them a bit with the result that I learned quite a bit about the textures needed and how they work. If nothing else, I might be able to point you in the right direction. Those two will be up on my Secrets of the Sixkillers blog in the next few weeks as both accessories and as decorative items with pose sets as well if you'd be interested. Your machinima samples you've shown on here are really well done.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks :) The texture problems I am having with the beer bottle is that it's all one boring, solid colour (I can change the colour in CAS, but that's as fancy as it gets).
DeleteThe wine bottle turned out a little better. I followed Cloudwalker's advice, and it was a bit "shinier" than the beer bottle, so that was an improvement - plus I was able to get two colours that time- but it still looks a bit bland-looking, I can't get the wine label to show up and it isn't transparent.
I think the texture problems are in part due to my own laziness. I am using TSRW myself and don't have a very good understanding of "overlays", "multipliers" and what-not. Simply transferring the textures over when converting from object-to-accessory doesn't work out for me, for some reason.
As far as my machinima goes, I've already filmed most of the scenes with the bottles already, so I'm not too fussed there, I would just need to make them a lot nicer if I release them to general public, lol.
If you know of any good tutorials that explain textures in an easy-to-grasp way, I'd be happy to study them after I finish off a few more animations and scenes this week :)
And sure, I'd like to download your accessories once they're available. The more the merrier :)
Alrighty- well your specular is actually the big thing in making any accessory shiny, though there is also a setting in the materials category where you can set your bottles to be shinier.
ReplyDeleteFor starters- the second Object making tutorial for TSRW has a lot of info about speculars. And when you bake them you can actually choose how shiny to make them.

Uh, just from experience with the nectar bottle if you're wanting the label to show up you don't want your bottle to be too shiny. I had a lot of problems with that starting out because my bottles would be too white for darker scenes and the labels would shine the same as my bottles.

This is an unedited pic that I took while testing some things, so please ignore the unpolish. But if you look at the bottles on Layla's right you'll see how even the labels shine.
http://tinypic.com/r/ajqhdx/5 That's the finished version- non photoshopped. I believe the shininess of the specular was set at Medium shine and the shininess in the materials category was set to 7.67.
I have a lot of other tutorials linked that I had to use to get to those points- if you'd like those links this is my email- a_ray_of_sunshyne@yahoo.com
Apologies for the late reply Sunshyne, but thank-you very much for the info and tutorial link, I appreciate it. I might e-mail you in a week or so when I get some more time to experiment with objects. Thanks again ^_^
DeleteNot a problem. I'd been sitting on it and realized you wanted your bottle to be more than one color? Did I read that correctly?
DeleteYes. Ideally, I'd like it look look exactly like the original object. For example, this is the wine bottle I converted:
Deletehttp://s741.photobucket.com/user/ballintine3/media/sims%203%20stuff/Screenshot-26_zpse3d3f88e.jpg.html
But this is how the original wine bottle looked:

If I am able to fix it, I would also need to get permission from the original creator (Aikea Guinea) before uploading.
But I will focus on it a bit later. Right now, I'm trying to convert a door into an accessory (for some animation experiments, hehe).
DeleteYeah. I think I could help there. But I may need to experiment with the actual bottle first. That's quite possibly two materials there and you'd need to find an object that uses the same material bases. I'll crack that package open and see what I see this weekend.
ReplyDeleteAnd a door accessory? Wow! I'm intrigued!
Also, on my blog- Secrets of the Sixkillers, I should be posting a coffee mug accessory a little later today (My today- the 8th of November. I'm sure it's a little farther along where you are. ;) ) if you're interested.
As a quick question from playing around with transparency tonight- Have you copied the notes from the materials tab on the Original and then plugged those settings and values in on your accessory? That might be a little bit of it. After that I've got a few theories, but it'll be quite some time before I can test them.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a go, thanks :) Did you want me to e-mail you the bottle and you can have a peak at it maybe?
DeleteSure! I'll see what I see. lol
